Top IT Trends To Look Out For in 2023

"We expect the 2023 trends to impact enterprise strategies in the coming three years by enabling organizations to address four key priorities - Optimizing, Scaling, Pioneering, Pursuing."

Gartner

2023 promises exciting cutting-edge technology. These applications will be powered in part by 5G networks to enable solutions that are faster, better, and more powerful than ever before.

According to Forbes, supply chain issues may be resolved or bypassed, 5G networks will be accessible to many industries, and the economy will finally stabilize for the first time since the pandemic hit. These factors pave the path for exciting and breakthrough technology.

Intelligence Goes Artificial

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been around for decades, but made a strong comeback in 2022. Software such as ChatGPT is revolutionizing the way people can search for and retrieve content that is identical to human language models. Other software can manipulate photos to recreate surreal or realistic backdrops and videos that are much more fluid than the best PhotoShop projects. Experts predict that AI-generated music may even compete with mainstream music in 2023!

People won't be phased out anytime soon, however. A CNN article notes that "more work will be needed to ensure that generative AI co-pilots -- such as GitHub's Copilot, a tool designed to help developers code -- are accurate and unbiased".

Supercharged 5G Networks

As mobile internet networks evolve, they bring a new layer of complexity and capabilities. 5G is set to equip not just computers, smartphones, and devices, but also machinery, and vehicles! A whole new world of interconnectedness is set to rise in 2023 as 5G rolls out worldwide and is easier to access.

Real Virtual Worlds in the Metaverse

What was restricted to the movies and sci-fi is now inching closer to reality! Post-pandemic, the virtual world of the Metaverse is set to become "real" in 2023, with opportunities for marketing and conferencing. The pandemic demonstrated the efficiency of online meetings, webinars, and virtual events that can happen in the Metaverse. Games with a customer base that plays in current virtual worlds such as Minecraft and Roblox are a great opportunity for driving customer loyalty and engagement.

Head in the Cloud

Deloitte reports that cloud computing will be even bigger in 2023. Although Charles Babbage knew that he was making history, he'd be amazed to see how his humble binary computing system is now in the clouds! The next stage of cloud computing, in decentralization, includes "technologies and platforms rooted in the cryptographically secure block chain". Expect to see a big push in cloud storage, compute, domain name system (DNS) and currencies that go one step beyond crypto.

The Robots are Here

You can expect to see robots go mainstream, but not in the way that you think. The robots that we think of, all humanoid and serving us still have a way to go to be developed, and we won't meet most of them in person. However, they do the work in the background, efificengly and without complaining, and they run on the codes and softwares that developers like you program! Several robots are already working but are restricted to industrial use alone. Yet other robots have been trained to excel at specific tasks, such as scanning inventory at supermarkets, or labeling products at e-commerce delivery warehouses.

The Future of Tech in 2023

We're headed to an evolving world with a focus on automation, whether that's from AI or robots, or in the cloud. Internet and 5G capabilities will provide lightning fast speeds with lower latency for powerful data uploads and downloads, enabling developers to bring their dreams to fruition.
